Especially to people wearing glasses, what’s up with the weird question?

Glasses aren’t that unique to be questioned about all the time. We never knew you’d take our consideration of glasses being different and as a fashion accessory in such a way. You see people wearing glasses everywhere. From the people you meet at a café, school, subway or at the mall, glasses are so common now.

With the recent popularity in designer glasses, now anyone can pull off glasses in different shapes, size, and colours. From rocking a pair to meet your day-to-day look or to look completely reliable for the job at an interview, glasses are must-have at all points of life.

1. Are your glasses real?

Starting off with the most obvious one, how would you prove to people that your glasses are indeed, very real. This is the real question. Maybe showing your prescription might help.

If someone asks the question now, it’s completely acceptable. Now, people have started to wear glasses solely for fashion purposes. But back in the day, glasses mostly catered to correcting your sight, so it would be a little challenge to prove the validity of your glasses. You can either give them to test it out or just stare at them until they forget they ever asked the question.

2. When did you start wearing glasses?

It’s kind of sweet one. When you see a friend after a while and they are completely taken aback, just because they saw you wearing glasses for the very first time. You can count this as a surprise. The tease of seeing you in all serious and glammed up is bound to cause laughter. But it’ll be startling to hear this as a conversation opener with strangers, probably the worse ice-breaker.

But don’t back down though. You’ve got the perfect time to tell a story. Include all the scientific terms, medications, possible cure and even add the brands of frame you’ll recommend the most. Every day we learn something new. Don’t know if it will be useful or not but detailing contributes to a great and insightful conversation.

3. Why don’t you wear your glasses sometimes? Can you see me without your glasses?

This is so out of the blue. Just because we wear glasses, you don’t have to always wear your glasses. You can take a break not just to be bombarded with tons of questions on why you aren’t wearing your glasses. Tell them you are just taking a break and when your eyes would start to hurt or squint you’ll put them back on. And yes, you see them quite well.

4. Why not go for laser surgery?

And lose out on your stunning collection of glasses? That’s out of the question! LASIK does help to restore vision which is perfect for most activities, but people still eventually require glasses while reading or driving as they get old. But, it’s a surgery so it will be quite expensive and doesn’t necessarily guarantee a 100% success rate.

So why invite such risk and waste a lot of money? Plus, your glasses compliment your look and face quite well, so why would you want to replace them with anything else.

5. You must be quite smart, right?

Since when did someone’s IQ was calculated with the accessory they wear? We don’t apply this logic with shoes, bags or clothes. Although, this question isn’t as bizarre as we’ve received till now.

The impression of deeming someone as smart, just because of their glasses is mostly impelled from the movies. Hollywood has created almost all nerdy characters with one prominent accessory that doesn’t go unnoticed — glasses.

Although some wish to gain the power of being smart, and well-read by just wearing a pair of glasses. But sadly, the reality is a little different.

Not all smart people wear glasses, and not all people who wear glasses are gifted with Einstein genes.

6. Staying up late and reading too much have strained your eyes, isn’t it?

Not even close. That statement is also scientifically incorrect. Don’t justify your lack of interest in reading for our eyesight deterioration. It’s a natural phenomenon.

Although we don’t recommend reading or staying up late at night, as it does strain our eyes to some extent. But there’s no scientific truth behind our eyesight weakening as a result of dim light. Besides, staying up late and reading a book is a real thrill of life. This, we’ll definitely recommend doing.

7. Why don’t you try contact lenses?

To tell you the truth, contact lenses aren’t as convenient as glasses. And, you feel absolute fear and pressure while sticking out your fingers in the eyes. It gets quite intense. Plus, you’d have to wet your contact lenses before wearing and ensure you don’t wipe your eyes, or else, you’ll end up scratching your cornea.

Contact lenses aren’t worth getting infection, itchiness and other eye discomforts. And the additional cost of lenses is quite expensive for people to afford. Thereby, we’ll pass and continue to stick with the convenient, comfortable and the risk-free alternative — our specs.

8. How many fingers am I holding up?

Maybe 30! How about that? Just because we took our glasses off for a moment, doesn’t make us blind instantly. We can perfectly see you holding up your 3 fingers, it’s just a little…..blurry.

9. Don’t people mistake you for “insert someone famous with glasses”?

No! If you’d consider me identical to a famous celebrity, don’t make the judgement merely based on the glasses. We might as well be as handsome/pretty as Ryan Gosling/Emma Watson.

10. Can I wear them for a sec?

Not, everything is meant to share, I guess. The idea of sharing glasses isn’t that welcomed in the glasses community. We are obsessed with our frames, even the fake ones and can’t stand getting your fingerprints all over the lenses.
