Just like fashion, and glasses trends, health and wellness also bring out new trends. Now that we’ve stepped into the new year, your new resolution must include prioritising physical and mental health. Each year, we see a plethora of certain wellness trends take off, such as sleep, wellness music, mental wellness with technology to name a few.

But the Covid-19 pandemic changed the trends forever and brought its own new. Not only the wellness industry completely shifted in less than a year, but more and more wellness catered around lockdown and quarantine subjects.

In midst of new and changing health and wellness trends, it can be extremely difficult to discern the right trends worth embracing and others to be left untouched.

Are trends to be taken seriously?

Health and wellness trends provide a balanced approach for eating, staying healthy and happy, both physically and mentally. These health and wellness trends aren’t trends at all. It’s more of a modern approach to health combined with regular changes in our lifestyle.

Health trends are an innovative and modern way of educating yourself all the time.

Let’s face it, we don’t know a lot of stuff out there, and using science, we all can achieve a great form of lifestyle.

Let’s look at the top 5 wellness trends set out to be popular in 2021

1. Virtual Wellness

You saw this coming, didn’t you? Virtual, at-home wellness continues to be one of the biggest trends in 2021.

The only things that we interacted in 2020 and even in 2021 are digital devices, thus we must know how to use them appropriately to prevent any side effects.

From medication apps to digital fitness apps, telemedicine and virtual therapy, we’ve looked for all answers using the digital media. As soon as the pandemic hit, we looked for immediate help and solutions from the internet, social media and blogs online.

Our screen time hit sky high, from Netflix binge-watch to watching hours of fitness videos.

Whether you wanted entertainment, news, shopping, or wanted to continue your fitness routine — digital screens are all that you’ve stared at for a year now.

Your eyes get the best relief from blue light glasses against the overexposure of blue light. These high-energy, short-wavelength rays are extremely harmful to our eye health, as it causes eye strain, headache, burning sensation, blurry vision and many others.

The solution for eliminating eye condition, discomfort and possible risk is to either abandon screen use or find a balance.

Blue light glasses are a perfect balance, as they allow you to use the screen while also protecting your eyes.

2. Catch more Sleep

The lack of sufficient sleep for UK adults is a public health epidemic.

Even after having a $432 billion sleep market, we still aren’t getting sleep.

Locked in our homes, we’ve never been so obsessed with smartphones, computers and other digital devices. It’s difficult to track our sleep quality at night as we often lose out on it by choosing to use screens at night. Sleep problems are prevalent across the world which birthed businesses of smart mattresses, sleep tonics, sleep ice cream and others.

Even after prioritising sleep, one in 10 people suffer from regular insomnia and sleep deprivation.

Wonder why?

We are messing up with natural circadian rhythms that cause changes in our biological system.

We all have an internal daily clock that determines our sleep, wake and mood pattern. It gets activated by the sun’s bright blue light making us alert and active, and requires darkness after the dusk to put your brain into sleep mode.

We don’t get quality sleep when the natural circadian gets disrupted.

When we blast our eyes during the night time with blue-enriched light from the brighter and addictive screen.

The light ricks our brain into thinking it’s still daylight which makes you crave for social media, Netflix shows until you are drained. Once the blue light emitted from the screen is creased from entering our body through the eyes, you experience improved sleep quality. Catch as much sleep as possible for an uplifting mood, happy and healthy state of mind and body.

3. Preventive treatment

Our typical solution-oriented approach to well being has some flaws.

Meaning — We mostly focus on treating health problems after we develop them and require immediate help.

It can be unsafe and a financial drain as you are left with no option other than spending a hefty amount on treating a health problem.

Until recently, consumers are pushing back and looking for a more preventive approach.

Rather than looking for a solution to a problem that’s already dawned, consumers want the solution that helps to prevent these issues from occurring in the first place.

For instance, if you get your annual eye test, you reduce the chances of developing severe eye problems like AMD and cataract. As a comprehensive eye test identify the growing problem and alert you so you seek immediate treatment and stop it from turning detrimental.

Preventive wellness is the way to stay healthy by preventing problems beforehand. And the pandemic also accelerated its importance.

4. Intuitive Eating

Drop the habit of counting calories or following an intense routine.

Get back to the basics and eat like a child, meaning following an intuitive eating habit. You must prioritise the quality of the food, and how it affects your mood and energy.

If you don’t want to eat something that’s healthy for you, then don’t. Eat what makes you want more, and uplift your mood.

Start respecting your body and maintain a balance. Just listen to your body to determine the eating routine. Your body automatically informs you when it’s hungry, full or satisfied. It is an effective tool that creates a sustainable eating pattern and improves your mental well-being.

5. Radical Self-care

With so much anxiety, melancholy and added stress, we are heading into 2021 with a lot of mental issues. We all have different worries, from financial to mental state and family issues, we often neglect caring for ourselves.

Radical self-care is not just a trend but a necessity that allows prioritising your own state of being before anyone else.

Self-care involves more than bubble baths, it is a warm hug, deep understanding and protecting oneself from any negative energy and putting yourself out. Self-care for people differ based on their needs, but its impact on their health is immensely significant.

You are all you have at the end.
