5 Tips on Stopping your Glasses from Slipping Down
One day, while commuting back home from the office, my spectacles slipped off my face. There was a rush in the tube. My glasses nearly got smashed to pieces. They were slightly loose, and getting off from my face because of a slight scuffle was easy. I almost lost my expensive pair of glasses. That made me go all-out search for ways to make my glasses stay in one place.
You don’t mind them when you have to adjust your glasses when you bend down to fix your shoes. You can fix them back to place and do your task. It is fine as long as you don’t get your glasses to break.
Anyway, most glasses wearers unconsciously keep fixing their glasses even if they don’t need to. I have that nasty habit. I might as well tie my hands back, but I will still find a way back to somehow adjust my glasses. It’s chronic if you are a long time wearer. And I, who have worn them for more than 10 years, don’t realise my glasses are loose until I break them.
So, here’s a result of my research on how to stop your glasses from slipping off your face.
Wrap ties around the glasses temple.
Get few elastic bands and tie them on the arms of your glasses. This will increase the grip of the frames. It’s similar to how a rubber grip on a pen does not let your fingertips slip and helps in writing.
Your frames will be fixed in one place and do not come off. If you worry about the aesthetic of your glasses, get creative and put on matching bands or vibrant bands to make them part of your fashion statement.
Remove the oiliness of your face.
One major reason for your glasses to slip is the oiliness of your face. Don’t be shy about it. It’s natural. Everybody secrete natural oil enough to cook a simple dish.
Before stepping out, remember to wipe off that excess sweat or oil. Have some clean face wipes in your bag, and you will have less trouble with both natural oil or your glasses falling off.
Replace the nose pad
Take off your glasses and check the nose pad. Maybe it’s the fault of your glasses nose pads that they keep slipping down. A saddle nose bridge or little plastic nose pads can become slippery from sweat or oil. Get elastic nose pads on your glasses.
You can remove the nose pads yourself by using a screwdriver or get it done by giving them to your local optician.
For glasses without a nose pad, you can get adhesive nose pads online. Stick them on your glasses. This will increase the grip of the glasses and not let them slip.
Tighten nose pad or temple arm.
If your glasses are loose, you can tighten them by using a screwdriver. I have a tiny screwdriver that I got with my glasses when I ordered them. It can be used to adjust the screws in the temple or your nose pads.
Some glasses have adjustable nose pads that can be fixed by simply pressing on them. They are mostly metal frames. You can adjust them at home and wear them without worrying about your glasses falling.
Use ear hooks at the end of glasses.
You can also try out ear hooks for your glasses. You can buy these online. These are rubber hooks that you can slip on the end of the arm of your frames. Position these far enough to tighten them against your ear. This will hook the glasses on the back of your ear and prevent your glasses from falling.
Best way to avoid your frames from falling
Get glasses frames that are of the same size as your face. Glasses of ill-fit do not sit well on your face. You will find them too tight or too loose. If the frames are too tight, the temples will spread out over time, making them loose. You can tighten them, but they will spread out again after some time.
If your frames are loose, they will keep falling from the get-go. Whenever you are buying glasses, make sure to buy one of the right sizes.
Visit a local optician store, take help from the optician to get the right size for your face. You might not like taking style advice, but they do know much about the right fit.
You can also order a free home trial on glasses. You can try on different styles and also try different sizes of frames. You can talk to the seller to make you frames of your custom size and not the usual large, medium, small sizes available in the market. It’s better to put extra effort into buying the glasses frames than to have bothersome every day of fixing your glasses.
