Establishing Core Values Should Be Your Core Business Strategy

“It’s not hard to make decisions once you know what your values are.”

~ Roy E. Disney

As our regular readers know, last month we had a lady reach out to us saying that she had ordered glasses from us and needed them urgently. She was about to go into labour and needed the pair urgently so that she could see her newborn baby clearly.

And we did it!

She reverted with a photo of her wearing the new glasses with her newborn baby in her arms. Well, this incident — and many others like these that we are grateful to experience — more than sums up the core values that Specscart stands for.

What drives your business — CORE VALUES

Not your business strategy, not your services, it is a set of core values that sets your business apart from the rest.

What are core values? How do they impact the functioning of your business and the relationship with your employees, customers, and the broader community?

Simply put, core values represent the guiding principles of a company, over which the identity of a company is built. Core values are the fundamentals upon which your business strategy rests and are a reflection of your company culture.

If a business has well-aligned core values, what results is a group of purpose-oriented employees, loyal (not just satisfied) customers, and a community that has a clear understanding of your company’s identity.

We, at Specscart, stand for….

Specscart has got its own set of core values. While all of them have been well thought-out and communicated effectively to our team members, customers, and the broader community, the thing about them is that they fit naturally into our business. Let’s see how!

Cometh the idea, cometh the values!

Way back in 2017, when our founder — Sid Sethi — visited various high street stores in Manchester looking for a pair of emergency glasses for his college exams scheduled to begin the next day, what he encountered was a poor customer experience.

From a customer point of view, Sid had identified three major problems — unreasonably high prices, poor accessibility to glasses (they were locked behind thick glass panes), and a slow turnaround time.

An idea is central to entrepreneurship, but for the idea to be successful, it needs to be a problem solver.

To address the problems identified, Sid came up with the idea of Specscart. Right at the process of ideation, certain core values were ingrained into Specscart.

The core values that came along with the idea of Specscart include -

Leadership — taking lead in doing something extraordinarily different (a mission to change the way eyeglasses are perceived).

Empathy — launching our business for a cause that caters to the problems of people.

Accountability — when looking at the larger scheme of things, Specscart should come out as a problem solver.

Specscart’s services: Reflection of our values

There is no point if our core values do not reflect in the services that we provide. The core values that are inbuilt into our services include -

Quality — Whether it is our free eye test or one-of-a-kind free 24 hour dispatch, we know that there is no room for compromise on the quality. And our passionate team members work in unison to assure the same.

Integrity — Ethics and moral principles over profits any day.

Promise to customers — Well, if we say we will deliver your glasses the next day, we stay true to that and leave no stones unturned to do it.

The way we deal with people

We love our interactions with people. On dealing with people, we keep certain values at the forefront -

Teamwork — To run a business successfully, the importance of teamwork cannot be stressed much. Our employees — who comprise Team Specscart — have a solid connection with the cause that we are working for. Once this connection is established, teamwork flows naturally.

Passion — Our aim at Specscart is to build personal bonds with every person who allows us to serve them. Whether it is our store managers or our lab technicians, they are always passionate and dedicated to ensuring that you have a memorable Specscart experience.

Fairness — Treating every person with humility and respect, which we all deserve.

To conclude, we would like to quote the famous American author and salesman Zig Ziglar, who aptly highlights the importance of core values for your business.

“You don’t build a business. You build people. And then people build the business.”
