Stepping outside without wearing a mask is a terrifying thought nowadays. You can’t possibly imagine your protection without a mask covering up your face ( ideal for introverts). It was all good until our glasses started to get foggy and turned unclear.

Now it’s become a tricky situation for people all over the world. If you are with us in the struggle too then our tips on prevention of fogginess on glasses would work wonders.

Why are your masks so against your glasses?

What makes the lenses foggy by just wearing a mask? Turns out there is extensive research done by Ophthalmic and Physiological Optics Journal to provide a final solution. In their 1996 article, it states that whenever a person wearing glasses/sunglasses enters a warm environment from a cooler one, there’s a formation of mist on their lenses. It results due to condensation.

That being said, the current pandemic led us to experience this situation in a whole new way. While wearing a mask, the warm and moist air from our mouth gets directed to our glasses resulting in getting foggy. So to stop the glasses from getting foggy, we’ll have to resolve the problem from its roots by blocking the breath from reaching the lenses.

5 useful and effective tips of preventing your glasses from getting foggy

1. Use soapy water

Soapy water has never been so useful until now. It’s one of the best and most recommended tactics for eliminating fogginess off lenses. Even the Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England wrote an article in 2011 suggesting the work of soapy water against foggy lenses.

The steps involve:

:-Apply a few drops of soapy water on your lenses

:-With a cloth spread it evenly across the glasses without putting any pressure.

:-Shake off the excess of water and let the lenses air-dry

You’ll experience an unexpected change on your glasses, they won’t get foggy anymore while being masked. The significant reason behind the change is a scientific one. The use of soapy water on the surface of the lens leaves behind a surfactant film that reduces the surface tension and causes the water molecule to spread across evenly. Due to the surfactant effect on lenses, your glasses are back to everyday use without any disturbance.

2. Find a well-fitting mask

Mask is not just a necessity for protection but also for preventing awkward situations. It’s highly recommended to look for face masks that aren’t loose but strictly fitting. It helps to prevent the exhaled air from your mouth from reaching the glasses. In addition to this step, a small hack saves you a great deal. Add a tissue between your mouth and the mask to absorb the air into it. So that there’s no air to travel upward or downward, just into the tissue. Don’t miss to check the bottom portion of your mask and keep it loose to direct the exhaled air from travelling to the eyes.

3. Use the glasses to their power, place it over the mask

If you are a fan of chunky or bold frames, then this trick will save you a lot of time. It’s a successful yet effortless trick to do. After wearing your mask, just place the glasses over the mask on the nose. Now there is no area or exposure in the mask in the upward direction that will direct the breath air onto your eyes.

4. Grab some shaving foam

Not to shave anything here but to save your glasses from fogging, you’ll need shaving foam. Apply a tiny amount of shaving cream on the inside of the glasses and gently wipe it off. Don’t try to put any pressure on the lenses to prevent it from getting any scratch or breakage. The shaving cream gentle wipe would leave a residual coating on the lenses which will further keep it protected from misting up.

5. Settle on a face mask with a nose bridge

A loose mask is a big no-no as we stated earlier but a mask without a nose bridge is a direct invitation to foggy glasses. So it’s highly significant to glasses with a robust nose bridge that’s easily flexible. It’s the ability to bend and move helps to fit your nose and keep it in its place.

The nose bridge plays a big role for several reasons. It makes the mask more effective and useful by retaining the moisture to escape to your eyes and also comfortable to wear. No, you won’t’ have to constantly pull your mask up and stop it from slipping down.

These tips will out rightly help you escape a great deal of trouble. Think of your glasses and mask as a new fashion accessory and you’ll come up with the best way to pull them off.
