Little known facts & myths about Sunglasses- Are they effective?
Sunglasses have various use -
- To protect your eyes
- To show your style
- To attract attention
- Or to ward off people
You can use your sunglasses however you like. But is it effective? Or is it some myth and you have been religiously following it without having a clue. Let’s bust the myths and bring out the little known facts to light.
1. Sunglasses are only for looks
Depends.
Sunglasses are only for looks is both a myth and a fact depending on the type of sunglasses you wear.
If you are wearing some cheap sunglasses that you bought for some chump change from some market corner, it’s a fact.
Wearing cheap glasses will only add to your look. If they are a good fit for your face, you did a good purchase otherwise it’s a waste. Cheap sunglasses are only for looks.
Good quality sunglasses with polarised lenses are useful against the sunlight. If you are going out in harsh sunlight, don’t wear your cheap sunglasses. Keep them for fun parties. Wear polarised glasses for the harsh sunlight.
2. Sunglasses are for grown-ups
Whoever said this, don’t listen to them ever. They are giving you bad advice. Everybody needs to protect their eyesight. Children don’t have a fairy godmother that will shield their eyes. They need actual sunglasses. After all, they too go out in the sun.
If you are going on a family vacation to a beach, you will need a pair of polarised sunglasses for each and every member. Only then, you could enjoy your heart’s content.
3. Sunglasses give you full UV protection
Again, it depends on which type of sunglasses.
Mostly when glasses are cheaper, they don’t have a UV protective coating.
Regular sunglasses don’t come with UV protection.
Polarised sunglasses, not all of them come with UV protection.
Only the sunglasses that are marked with UV 400 or UV 200 coating come with UV protection. If your sunglasses specification does not have a UV 400 mentioned, then your glasses are not UV protected.
You don’t really need UV protection unless you live in a high UV index region. If you are in the UK, the US, Peru or South American or Caribbean countries where the UV index is very high, you will need good quality sunglasses with cent per cent UV blocking capabilities.
You can buy glasses and sunglasses from Specscart. All glasses and sunglasses come with UV 400 coating on them. You can get polarised sunglasses at a low cost.
You can even buy many sunglasses with polarisation and UV protection at the cost of one pair of designer sunglasses. You can buy sunglasses for prices as low as £50.
4. Sunglasses are for the sunny days
Again, whoever said this, never-ever listen to them. You need sunglasses for UV rays. UV rays can be found even on cloudy days. You can’t leave your eyes unprotected on such days.
Also, sunglasses can protect your eyes from dirt and dust. Wearing your sunnies in cloudy windy weather can be more useful than you think.
But then you won’t be able to see clearly. Well, not if you wear polarised sunglasses.
Polarised sunglasses give you a clear view. You will not know until you try them yourself.
5. Bigger sunglasses are better
Bigger sunglasses look cool. They give you the hipster vibe. But they are not always better. Especially if they cover your eyebrows and cheekbones.
You will argue that bigger sunglasses cover most of your face and protect you from UV rays.
Good point.
However, both look wise and fit wise, oversized sunglasses are not better.
If your sunglasses cover your eyebrows and cheekbones, they are too big for your face and will keep coming off. A little bit of skirmish and your glasses will be thrown off to god knows which direction.
Also, these sunglasses will not feel comfortable at all.
And look-wise, there will not be any look, just your sunglasses. If you want to hide your face but bring unwanted attention then you can go for it.
Or choose sunglasses that are stylishly oversize but do not cover your cheekbones or your eyebrows.
To check the good fit of your frames, try to smile wearing them. If the glasses are getting lifted up, then give up.
6. Dark tints are better than light tints
Do you know people do not use black curtains?
The only reason is that it makes the room too dark to see. Wearing dark tint sunglasses are cool and all, but they obstruct all the light. Your vision is limited. With lighter tints, you have a clearer view.
And dark or light tints have no effect on blocking UV rays. You need a UV-400 coating over them to block UV rays.
7. You get good quality for a good price
Not necessarily, most designer brands have good quality frames. They are sturdy and durable. But you might not get polarised or mirrored sunglasses for the same price. You might have to put more of your money to get quality lenses.
You can buy sunglasses online from Specscart, you will get good quality long-lasting frames as well as polarisation and UV-400 coating at affordable prices.
Do the math. Comfort, style, durability and quality lenses for low prices or just comfort and style at high prices.
High price no longer means the best quality. Check out for yourself, you might get many quality glasses at lower prices as well.
