Driving at night time is not an easy job to do. You need to be very careful. Especially when you are driving out in suburbs where there is low light. You will think it’s better to drive on the road with fewer cars, but limited light and your vision issues can lead to mishappenings. You need to be extra careful whether you are driving on a busy road or an empty road.

Why driving at night can be risky

At night time, there are a lot of bright lights on the road. There are neon signs, blinding street lights or headlights from the cars. All these lights are distorted and form halos, which disrupt you from seeing clearly. You can get distracted by even a little flash of light on your eyes.

Also, when you are driving on a dark road with lesser cars, your pupils are dilated to allow maximum light in. In such a situation when you are suddenly faced with a very bright light, you are distracted, your eyes get hurt and you might get into an accident. There are many such risks of driving at night.

How can glasses help you in seeing better?

If you are a prescription glasses user, you should get your glasses made with an anti-glare coating. This will ensure that you won’t get distracted by oncoming lights. These glasses cut glare and you won’t see halos or starburst around bright lights. These glasses are also effective when driving during the daytime. These glasses will protect your eyes from the glares of the sun. Add a coating of UV 400 and you can worry-free wear these glasses during the daytime for driving.

Other glasses that you can try out are transition glasses. These glasses adjust the shade of the glasses to facilitate your vision. These glasses turn darker when exposed to bright light. These clear up when back in normal light or dim light setting. High-quality transition lenses take seconds to transition. These glasses will prove helpful when driving at night. Your glasses will transition as they are faced with bright lights and you will not get distracted and take appropriate measures to drive safely.

Buy prescription glasses online with anti-glare coating or with transition lenses to drive safely and worry-free.

Yellow tinted glasses for driving are not actually useful

There are many yellow-tinted glasses that are said to be good for driving during nighttime. However, these glasses do not affect your vision in any way. Wearing these glasses or not wearing them will not have any effect on your driving.

Also, yellow-tinted glasses make everything appear brighter. When you are flashed with bright lights, these glasses will be of no help. The lights will appear brighter blinding your view. You need clear glasses to see clearly. Any colour tint will pose a threat while driving.

If you have perfect vision, you don’t require glasses to see clearly in the first place. You do not require any glasses or yellow glasses for driving. If you have some sort of vision defect, then get your eyesight tested. If you are eligible to drive, then get appropriate glasses to correct your vision and drive while following the rules. Get transition glasses for your prescription glasses and wear them while driving at night or daytime.

Some eyeglasses tip while driving

  1. Get your eye tested at regular periods. Once in two years is enough to ensure that your vision is alright and you are fit to drive your car anytime.
  2. If you have colour blindness where you cannot differentiate between red and green colour, you should not drive.
  3. Your vision is deteriorating and you cannot see clearly with your glasses. You should first replace your glasses with the correct prescription. Only after correcting your vision, you should drive your glasses. It is better to be safe than to be sorry.
  4. Follow every traffic rule. Traffic rules are meant to keep you and others on road safe. By following them, you are keeping not just yourself but many others safe.
  5. If you have presbyopia, you should wear varifocal glasses while driving. You need your vision to be apt for driving. You cannot drive with poor near or far vision. You should be able to see clearly at all distances.
  6. If you have a health or eye condition that makes seeing or driving a bit troublesome, then avoid driving. You can call a cab or get someone to chauffeur you around.
  7. Do not drink and drive. It is understandable but still many flaunt this rule. Heavy drinking can affect your vision and it can impair your ability to see clearly temporarily or permanently.
  8. While driving, focus only on driving. Your eyes can focus only on one task. If you keep on doing other activities while driving like checking on your phone, you might get into an accident.
  9. Wear your prescription glasses if you have a vision problem. However, you should not wear reading glasses while driving as reading glasses are meant for seeing near objects and these will obstruct your far vision.
